Principle
In this experiment, the students should construct an image for a given object position, making use of selected light beams and their characteristic course through a convex lens. The experiment is demanding in terms of the abilities and experimental skills required of the students. It is, nevertheless, to be expected that, with careful adjustment and experimental method, the students make a significant gain in knowledge-particularly when the experimets are carried out with the optical bench.
Parallel to the step-by-step construction of the image point, first achieved at the end of the experiment, there is a srengthening of their understanding concerning the course of selected light beams through a convex lens. Using two examples (geometrical construction and confirmation of the lens equation), the importance of mathematics for the understanding of physics is made clear in this experiment.
Benefits
- Multifunctional light box - All-in-one: Can be used for geometric optics on the table, colour mixing and on an optical bench
- Extension with others sets at anytime, no additional light sources needed, recognition value for students
Tasks
What is the role of the lens in our eye? Investigate image formation by a convex lens with the help of selected light beams.
