Principle

Solar cells play an important role in the use of alternative energy sources, since they convert the sun's solar radiation directly into electrical energy. The electrical energy generated is demonstrated very clearly in this experiment by the use of a small motor. A filament lamp suffices as a light source.

Benefits

  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with a total of 17 experiments for Renewable Energy Basics and Heat energy
  • Contact safety due to puzzle blocks system
  • Doubled learning success: Electric circuit diagram on top, real components can be seen at the bottom

Tasks

  1. Can light drive a motor?
  2. Shine a light onto a solar cell and observe the motor connected to it.

Learning objectives

  • Motor
  • Solar cell
  • Renewable energy
